Ph.D. - Immunological Diagnosis of Parasite Infections

A PhD position is open in the research group of Andrea Kreidenweiss at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, University of Tuebingen, Germany, starting in February/March 2018.

The group is focusing on two human parasitic diseases – malaria and schistosomiasis. We are developing, establishing and evaluating diagnostic methodologies in Tübingen and also Africa (CERMEL, Lambaréné/Gabon). In addition, preclinical drug development projects are ongoing.

A position is open within a project funded by the German Center for Infection Research (Deutsches Zentrum für Infektionsforschung, DZIF) for the development of an immunological assay diagnosing parasite infections simultaneously. The project includes lab work in Tübingen and field work in Gabon.

The PhD student will learn methods of protein biochemistry, molecular biology, advanced flow cytometry and cell culture.

The successful candidate holds a master degree in biology/biochemistry and is highly motivated, self-reliant. He/she is interested in biomedical research and generally willing to work at the African partners´ institutions for a limited time (approx. 1/3 of the time). In addition to English language skills, basic knowledge in french is required.

The position is initially funded for 2 years (TV-L E13/50%), with the possibility for extension.
