Salmonella
Short description
Salmonella are bacteria causing foodborne infections and diarrhea.
Detailed description
Raw meat, raw eggs as well as ice cream are at a special risk of being contaminated with Salmonella. By consuming such contaminated food or by smear infections bacteria get into the human gastrointestinal tract and cause diarrhea, which is typical for infections with Salmonella. Especially small children and older people are at risk due to the associated fluid and electrolyte loss. Also in Germany, outbreaks happen regularly.
