Host-microbiome interactions

A sequencing platform will be made available as part of this research unit, whose focus is translational microbiome research. The know-how for sequencing and bioinformatic data analysis is used in various preclinical and clinical trials at the DZIF. One example is the so-called SPEKTRUM study, which is investigating the influence of microbes in the intestine on Clostridium difficile infections. The sequencing platform also plays a major role in a clinical study on Helicobacter pylori. This division is analysing the effects of treatment of the germ on the composition of the microorganisms in the intestine and whether probiotics (i.e. certain viable microorganisms) can balance the process.
