Centre de Recherches Médicales de Lambaréné (CERMEL)

The "Centre de Recherches Médicales de Lambaréné" (CERMEL) in Gabon is one of the leading institutions for malaria research in Africa. For over 20 years, CERMEL has collaborated closely with the Institute for Tropical Medicine (ITM) at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. Through joint projects, they advance the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of malaria. Children in tropical Africa suffer disproportionately from malaria. Therefore, clinical studies investigate new malaria drugs and combinations for pregnant women and children. Improving the treatment of AIDS/HIV and tuberculosis patients is another important shared goal.

CERMEL is one of four African Partner Institutions with which DZIF scientists already have long-standing collaborations.
