Biomarkers are objectively measurable characteristics that can provide information about normal biological processes, disease processes, or responses to treatment or other exposures.

Detailed description

Biomarkers can include molecules, genes, proteins, cells, as well as physiological, imaging, or histological characteristics. They can be used for the early detection and diagnosis of diseases, to assess disease progression, to select appropriate therapies, or to monitor treatment.
