Directly acting antivirals
Short description
Direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) are antiviral medications that specifically inhibit proteins of the hepatitis C virus (HCV), thereby preventing its replication.
Synonyms

Detailed description
DAAs specifically interfere with the replication cycle of the hepatitis C virus (HCV). Depending on the active ingredient, they inhibit different viral proteins that are necessary for the virus to replicate. To treat hepatitis C, several DAAs are typically combined. The therapy is generally well tolerated, often lasts eight to twelve weeks, and can permanently eliminate the virus in the vast majority of treated patients, thus curing hepatitis C.
