Detailed description

Malaria occurs primarily in tropical and subtropical regions. When bitten by an infected Anopheles mosquito, the parasites enter the human body and initially multiply in the liver, followed by the red blood cells.
Typical symptoms include fever, chills, headache, and body aches. Infection with Plasmodium falciparum is particularly dangerous, as it can lead to severe and life-threatening illness. Children under the age of five, pregnant women, and people without pre-existing partial immunity are at particularly high risk of severe illness.
