Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute (HKI)
Three associated partner institutions complement DZIF with their specific scientific expertise. While not formal member institutions, they are integrated into the research network and benefit from selected DZIF programs and infrastructures.
The Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute (HKI) in Jena is internationally recognized for its expertise in natural product research, infection biology, and anti-infective drug discovery. Together with the DZIF, HKI advances the development of innovative therapies against bacterial and fungal pathogens, including novel antibiotics such as BTZ-043.
The partnership also focuses on translating basic research into new therapeutic approaches by combining expertise in infection research, drug discovery, medicinal chemistry, and artificial intelligence. In addition, HKI and DZIF jointly support innovation and technology transfer through initiatives such as the transnational start-up incubator INCATE, helping to accelerate the development of promising anti-infective technologies.
