High quality research in infectious diseases requires the combination of classical (e.g. protein chemistry, molecular genetics and medical microbiology) and advanced state-of-the-art technologies (e.g. imaging methods, proteomics, structural biology, next generation sequencing, RNAi based high throughput approaches, systems biology, bioinformatics etc.). The DZIF Academy will grant laboratory rotation stipends in order to foster a deeper understanding of these methods and help master targeted applications.
It is the aim of the DZIF Academy to make its members aware of the potential and specific applications in infection research and to facilitate exchange, training and use of these facilities. This will lead to cross-fertilisation and more efficient use of expensive investments and sophisticated methods inside and outside the DZIF. The use of multidisciplinary approaches will further improve the quality of research and facilitate success as well as foster the mutual understanding of basic researchers and clinicians, which is important for bridging the gap between basic research and clinical application.
Applications open year-round. When determining the dates of your rotation, please consider at least six weeks for evaluation.
The DZIF Laboratory Rotation Stipend comprises a maximum of 1.500 Euro per recipient for European exchanges and a maximum of 2.500 Euro for exchanges abroad. It covers the costs of travel and accommodation for short laboratory exchanges. The applicant’s home institution covers daily provisions by continuing regular salary payment. Applications for exchanges abroad must provide especially clear reasoning for its necessity (i.e. demonstrate unavailability of materials or techniques within the DZIF network).

The laboratory rotation stipend is available to physicians and scientists at DZIF institutions. Please send your single-file PDF application to firstname.lastname@example.org with the following material:
- Letter of support confirming established contact between home and host laboratories
