The German Center for Infection Research establishes a new funding initiative
Apply now: The DZIF Start-up Fund supports innovations in anti-infectives and promotes spin-offs
The German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) is launching the DZIF Start-up Fund, a new funding initiative to support spin-offs in translational infection research. The fund aims to develop marketable applications from innovative ideas generated by DZIF member institutions and to enable company formation.
A special and unique feature of this initiative is the collaborative support provided from the outset. During an initial evaluation phase, teams receive individualized guidance which—if successful—leads to targeted financial support by DZIF for company formation and further financing. Selected projects will be incubated under the guidance of a team of technology transfer experts, including Dr. Holger Zimmermann as DZIF-sponsored industry expert.
What is being funded?
The focus of funding is on the development of preventive and therapeutic anti-infective approaches that meet a high medical need.
Incubation phase (6–12 months): During the incubation phase, teams receive strategic support and mentoring to develop a business concept and development plan, as well as to prepare for investor meetings and pitch events.
Funding phase (up to 12 months): In the funding phase, projects receive financial support of around €500,000 (depending on the project) to reduce risks and enable follow-up financing. The teams also receive support in setting up their companies.
