Short description
Decolonisation is the elimination of certain pathogens in humans.
Detailed description
Due to an increase in
antibiotic resistance and a lack of novel antibiotics, new ways to control resistant bacteria are needed. Complications with such pathogens are often due to bacteria that already colonize a person in good health and only become problematic after clinical interventions. Therefore, scientists investigate how these bacteria could be eliminated in patients, meaning how to decolonize them. This would be important before chemotherapy or major surgery.
