Viral hepatitis is an infection caused by hepatitis viruses that damages the liver.
Detailed description
Acute viral hepatitis is common in Germany. It is caused by hepatitis viruses A through E. Infections with hepatitis viruses B, C, and D can lead to a chronic course of disease and cirrhosis of the liver. Symptoms initially include flu-like symptoms. Later, they also often include yellowing of the skin.
