Infection research in the age of antibiotic resistance, gender medicine, and precision medicine

At their first joint meeting in Bonn, experts from the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) and the Paul-Ehrlich-Society for Infection Therapy (PEG) will discuss current scientific topics in infectious medicine and link them in an interdisciplinary manner. The focus is on challenges posed by antibiotic resistance and infectious disease aspects of gender and precision medicine, among other topics.

On February 23 and 24, 2026, experts from the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) and the Paul-Ehrlich-Society for Infection Therapy (PEG) will meet at the Maritim Hotel in Bonn for their first joint meeting. The scientific program uniquely combines the entire spectrum of research in the field of infectious diseases – “from the bench to the bedside.”

The conference program reflects the particular complexity and necessary interdisciplinarity of infection research, which must be given even greater attention than before due to global challenges in combating resistance and the threat posed by epidemic and pandemic events. Key topics include innovations in drug research, development, and application, the growing threat of antibiotic resistance, climate-sensitive infectious diseases, and the latest findings on interactions between hosts and pathogens.

For the first time, there will also be a special focus on gender-specific aspectsboth in immune responses and in the design of clinical trials related to infectious diseases. This is an increasingly important factor in generating evidence in the context of personalized healthcare and will also be the topic of the keynote lecture. Among many other issues, the conference will also address measures to improve healthcare for disadvantaged population groups and vaccinations as a preventive measure for non-infectious diseases.

With this conference, the DZIF and the PEG aim to promote scientific exchange between the various disciplines and to encourage and support new collaborationsfrom basic research to the scientifically supported translation of the latest research findings into medical advances. Young scientists are therefore particularly welcome to actively participate in this future-oriented scientific event.

Registration for the conference is possible at https://dzif-peg-annual-meeting.de/registration

The scientific program can be found on the event website.

In addition to internationally renowned keynote speakers and proven experts in their respective fields of research, young scientists will also have ample opportunity to express their views in the symposia, lectures, workshops, and poster sessions.
