The Faculty of Medicine at the Institute for Medical Microbiology and Hospital Hygiene is seeking to fill the following position at the earliest possible date:
Professorship (W2) in Microbial Immunology
Tasks:
The research focus of the professorship should be on gaining a deeper understanding of pathogen-host interactions and exploring the fundamentals for the development of new anti-infectives.
The professorship is intended to strengthen the scientific focus of the Faculty of Medicine, particularly in the field of inflammation and infection, and to provide links to research activities at the Center for Synthetic Microbiology (SYNMIKRO), the German Center for Infection Research, the German Center for Lung Research, the EU Vaccines Hub, and/or the Faculty of Pharmacy.
Active participation in teaching in the medical, human biology, and pharmacy programs is expected.
Profile:
The applicant should have internationally recognized scientific achievements in microbial immunology. The future research program should include medically relevant model systems suitable for analyzing translational aspects of pathogen-host interactions. Experience in successfully acquiring third-party funding is expected. Participation in microbiological diagnostics is possible.
Experience in teaching and, ideally, training in university teaching methods are advantageous.
The employment requirements set out in Sections 67 and 68 of the HessHG apply. Employment requirements include a completed university degree with a doctorate and academic achievements evidenced by a habilitation or equivalent achievements.

The Universities of Giessen and Marburg founded the Mittelhessen Research Campus together with the Technical University of Central Hesse; within this framework, the two medical faculties engage in structured cooperation based on coordinated areas of focus. You are therefore expected to be willing to cooperate across universities and departments in campus focus areas and profile areas, as well as to participate in joint projects.
