Parliamentary Group against Antimicrobial Resistance (PKAMR): strengthening antibiotic innovation, ensuring access

On June 12, 2026, the Parliamentary Group against Antimicrobial Resistance (PKAMR) held a discussion under the title "High-tech agenda for antibiotics—strategic directions for innovation and security of supply". The discussion focused on how Germany can ensure its research, development, and production capacities for antibiotics are future-proof.

The topics "Resistance is increasingly threatening healthcare," "Research is strong, but scaling remains a weak point," "A lack of market incentives is slowing innovation," and "Strengthen supply chains and reduce dependencies," were discussed by the following members:

The discussion focused on four key topics:

  • The growing threat of antimicrobial resistance;
  • Challenges in scaling antibiotic innovation;
  • Insufficient market incentives for antibiotic development;
  • Strengthening supply chains and reducing dependencies.

  • Dr. Franziska Kersten (Member of the Bundestag), Vice Chair of the PKAMR
  • Prof. Dr. Rolf Müller, Executive Director of the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS) and scientist in the research area Novel Antibiotics of the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF)

  • Johanna Wegenaer, Manager Government Affairs at GSK
