The Medical Center—University of Freiburg is a partner in several DZIF projectss in the research areas Hepatitis, Infections of the Immunocompromised Host and Healthcare-Associated Infections. Reducing healthcare-associated infections is an important goal of these projects. To this end, for example, antibiotics are used in a more targeted manner and hygiene measures are improved. Freiburg is one of six partner sites where the epidemiology of multidrug-resistant bacteria as well as of bloodstream infections and Clostridioides difficile infections have been studied longitudinally over a period of several years. A monitoring system is also being developed that will indicate outbreaks of multidrug-resistant bacteria in the clinic in good time.
