Detailed description
T lymphocytes carrying the surface antigen CD4 are called T helper cells. After activation, they release substances that are either involved in cell-mediated immunity or that stimulate B cell immune responses. HIV infects mainly this T lymphocyte subgroup.
Salmonellainfections can have serious consequences for certain high-risk groups, such as young children, the elderly and individuals whose immune systems are functionally compromised. Most people
The aim of SYNERGIE, the new magazine published jointly by the German Centers of Health Research (DZG,) is to present modern medical research and provide a brief digest of the latest research findings
Humanized mice carrying human genes or cells, for example, are a crucial model for disease research and drug development. Generating them and keeping them in optimal conditions requires a lot of know-how and experience. Therefore, a professional central unit with humanized mice (Humanized Mouse Core ...
A detailed understanding of cellular immune responses in acute and chronic hepatitis is essential for the development of new drugs against hepatitis B and D infections. This means that standardized immunomonitoring under the necessary security conditions of risk level 3 is required, where immune ...
A microscopy unit was established at the Heidelberg Partner Site for research groups from the research field “Hepatitis” and other research fields including “Emerging Infections”, “Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases” and “HIV” in particular. The working group microscopy of hepatitis viruses ...
Prof. Dr. Andreas Pichlmair and his team are investigating the complex interactions between viruses and the human immune system. How does the immune system respond to external attacks, and what countermeasures do the pathogens develop? Human cells have evolved sophisticated mechanisms to combat ...
The rapid spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is calling infection researchers to action. Which mechanisms protect bacteria and which methods can make them vulnerable once again? In an article
Andreas Moosmann’s research group investigates the immune system’s responses to viruses, particularly T cell responses. Widespread viruses such as the Epstein-Barr virus and the cytomegalovirus are at the core of their interest. After infecting healthy individuals, these viruses often remain in the ...
Primary human liver cells are required in order to investigate infections of the liver and to conduct preclinical tests of new agents. Isolating them from patient samples is a technologically challenging process requiring the highest levels of skill. This skill is available at the “Primary Human ...
