Short description
A bacterium that is methicillin-resistant can neutralize the effect of this antibiotic.

Detailed description

Methicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic, which is used to treat infections with gram-positive bacteria. In case of methicillin resistance, this is no longer possible. Particularly methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) have become a clinical problem as they cannot be treated with standard antibiotics any more.
