Eleven scientists from the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) are among the “Highly Cited Researchers 2024”. The ranking, published on 19 November by the company Clarivate Analytics, lists the world's most influential researchers whose publications in the past ten years were among the top 1 percent of publications cited annually in their field. The ranking therefore also serves as an indicator of influence and recognition in the scientific community.

Each of the eleven DZIF scientists listed has written several papers in the last ten years that are among the top 1 per cent of cited articles per subject area and publication year in the citation index of the online literature database “Web of Science”. Among the eleven DZIF scientists, seven have been cited very frequently in more than one subject area: Six of them are listed in the interdisciplinary “Cross-Field” category, Prof Christian Drosten in both the “Immunology” and “Microbiology” lists. The high number of citations in several disciplines shows that these scientists also have a considerable influence across disciplinary boundaries.

The following DZIF scientists are among the 1 per cent of the world's most frequently cited researchers:

Prof. Dr Ralf Bartenschlager, scientist at Heidelberg University Hospital and in the DZIF research areas “Hepatitis” and “Emerging Infections”, recognised in the cross-disciplinary award category “Cross-Field”. More about Prof. Bartenschlager's research
