Product Development Unit (PDU)
Our experts from the Translational Project Management Office (TPMO) in the PDU support scientists from the conception of a project to the first clinical trials. The PDU collaborates closely with DZIF researchers to identify suitable approaches for the development of new diagnostic tools, vaccines, and therapeutics in the early stages. The German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) at a glance
What makes the German Center for Infection Research so special? More than 700 people work at the DZIF with the common goal of translating basic research into clinical practice. The well-being of the patients is our top priority. The DZIF is one of eight German Centers for Health Research (DZG). Through the DZG, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) has established powerful structures to improve the detection, treatment, and prevention of widespread diseases.
The DZIF has brought together over 700 researchers from 35 member institutions and a variety of fields, including medicine, biology, epidemiology, chemistry, and bioinformatics, to address the five grand infectious disease challenges of our time.
Focus and priorities of infection research at the DZIF: grand challenges, research areas, infrastructures, and overarching bridging topics. Two research areas were renamed in 2023: "Gastrointestinal Infections" became "Community-Acquired Infections at Mucosal Interfaces", and "Healthcare-Associated and Antibiotic-Resistant Bacterial Infections" became "Healthcare-Associated Infections."
The DZIF bundles projects in nine research areas, each dedicated to a pathogen, a specific disease or a common topic within infection research.
